The particular situation created in the early years of the 1914/18 war, now mired in increasingly complex and protected trenches and fortifications, favored the formation of formations of men who, little by little, specialized in the coup de main. Our assault units, the Arditi, had their dagger. It was obtained from the pieces removed by the long blades of the Vetterli 1870 bayonets, which in the narrow trenches, in the corridors, between the fences were only an obstacle. It was certainly a rustic, salvaged weapon, not too beautiful but certainly inexpensive, light, not bulky and in expert hands also effective.
