During the First World War, the conflict soon degenerated into a long stalemate: opposing lines, increasingly elaborate trenches and fortifications that made any advance slow and risky. In this context, new operational needs arose and, with them, departments specialized in rapid raids and targeted actions in extremely hostile environments. Among these stood out the Arditi, Italian assault units formed by chosen men, trained in close combat with technique, courage and determination.
To meet the practical needs of this new type of engagement, the Arditi could no longer rely on the long and bulky Vetterli 1870 bayonets in their possession, unsuitable for the confined spaces of trenches and fences. The blades were then cut and transformed into more compact and functional knives, essential tools designed for readiness for action.
Extrema Ratio celebrates this tactical knife with the Arditi Limited Edition "Sabatini", a special production in only 200 numbered copies, dedicated to Carlo Sabatini, officer of the Arditi and emblematic figure of initiative and valor.
On 13 May 1918, Carlo Sabatini carried out an action destined to enter the Italian military historical memory: with just four men, he was the first to climb the steep walls of Monte Corno, eluding the observation of the Austrian lookouts. Once at the top, he took a large enemy garrison by surprise, engaging in a close combat that led to the conquest of the position. No one managed to escape: many fell, six were captured, including the commanding officer. Shortly thereafter, Sabatini led a second group to consolidate control of the strategic point, in an action as risky as it was decisive. For this act, he received the Gold Medal for Military Valor, granted by King Vittorio Emanuele III.
The Arditi Limited Edition "Sabatini" knife takes up the lines of the original Arditi model, revisited with modern technical solutions. The single-edged blade, with spear-point profile, is made of Böhler N690 steel (58 HRC) with a Dark Stone finish, a combination that combines high resistance with a matte finish, designed to avoid unwanted reflections. The handle is made of Italian walnut wood, machined and shaped to offer excellent ergonomics, balance and safety in the grip.
Each knife is kept in a personalized wooden box, individually numbered, and accompanied by a black leather sheath, designed to best enhance the uniqueness and collectible nature of this limited edition.
Arditi Limited Edition "Sabatini" is more than a knife: it is the result of a research between historical memory, functional design and excellent manufacturing, an authentic tribute to one of the most significant pages of the Italian military tradition.
